Inventor of the Write Way to Cake Decorating method
In the 1980’s, Jill Foster made her living as a cake decorator while attending college. Trained by a professional cake designer she learned many styles and techniques that were perfected over the years. Jill’s creativity developed, as she became known for her artistic theme and wedding cake designs. She has decorated thousands of cakes for every occasion.
When Jill became a mom she traded careers for children’s ministry so she could be home with her little ones. Yet Jill continued her love for decorating as she delighted friends and family with her original cake designs for parties and special events. Jill enjoyed decorating wedding cakes for friends who were getting married.
It wasn’t long before friends asked Jill to teach them how to decorate cakes. Knowing they were busy moms like her, she knew the other decorating methods would be time-consuming and expensive to teach. One day while waiting at a doctor’s appointment Jill doodled on a notepad and realized that writing the same letter in a row looked like a frosting border on a cake. Jill knew she had something innovative and easy to teach her friends. By taking ones instinctive ability they would be able to learn to decorate quickly. She called it the Write Way to Cake Decorating.
In 1996, Jill asked a women’s church group if she could teach her inventive technique at one of their meetings. Fifty ladies came with baked cakes ready to learn this new decorating method. Jill was amazed that they learned the technique in just one day! Each lady went home with a colorful and creative cake they made. She knew the Write Way method would change the way people decorated.
Since then Jill has designed hundreds of simple and colorful cakes using her Write Way method. She has taught her learn-in-one-day method classes to adults and children. She tells people, “If you can write your name, I can teach you to decorate a cake.” Jill realized that other cake decorating methods took many lessons, expensive supplies and hours to decorate. It is her mission to create cake designs that are colorful, affordable and people can decorate in just 30 minutes. She says, “I want people to get out of the kitchen and spend time at the party with the ones they love”.
Jill’s passion to teach others resulted in her first book, “Creative Cakes Anyone Can Make.” Published by Thomas Nelson Publishers, they decided to provide a training DVD with the book. The book and DVD is the newest craze in cake decorating. People are amazed how quickly they learn the Write Way method. It’s a sweet victory for people who have always wanted to decorate cakes but never believed they could.
Cake designing is just one of Jill’s many passions. Her two boys, Nicholas and Timothy keep her busy and filled with joy. As a school administrator of a Christian school, she enjoys juggling two careers. Her “giving spirit” supports an orphanage in the Philippines and various other ministries. She teaches a Bible study for women and speaks to women’s groups. One of her favorite talks is, “The Icing on the Cake of Life”.
Jill lives in Murrieta, California.
