Sweet Beginnings: Creating Quick, Simple and Affordable Cakes
In the early 1990’s, Jill Foster was known as the cake lady in her community. She loved designing and decorating cakes for family and friends special events. Whether it was a colorful birthday cake or a stunning wedding cake Jill enjoyed making them as gifts. At every event, people asked if she could teach them how to make cakes. They were amazed that Jill was able to create spectacular cakes in her kitchen with a few supplies and little time.
One day a friend called and asked if she would teach her MOPS (Mother’s of Preschoolers) group how to decorate cakes. With this invitation, Jill wanted to create a quick, simple and affordable method to teach these busy moms. If anyone needed an easy way to decorate cakes, it was moms with young children. It was this challenge that the Write Way to Cake Decorating method was born.
The idea for the Write Way to Cake Decorating came to Jill while waiting in a doctor’s office. Bored out of her mind and having read all the out-dated magazines, she began doodling cursive letters on a notepad. Looking at the paper she realized that writing the same letter in a row looked like a frosting border on a cake. In an instant she knew this would be an easy way to teach the moms how to decorate. By taking ones instinctive ability to write they would be able to learn to decorate in one lesson.
With Jill’s new Write Way method and five cake designs to demonstrate, she taught the MOPS class and helped fifty women become decorators before her eyes. Every mom left that day with a decorated cake they made themselves. It was then that Jill knew she could teach anyone how to decorate a cake.
Over the years Jill has designed and created hundreds of quick and simple cake designs using the Write Way to Cake Decorating method. She has taught her technique at women’s group, kitchen parties and baking classes.
It wasn’t long before Jill’s Write Way to Cake Decorating method was recognized by Thomas Nelson Publishers. Her first book and DVD, “Creative Cakes Anyone Can Make” has cultivated a decorating revolution. Now people all over the world can create fantastic cakes that are quick and simple. Jill’s motivating teaching style makes skeptics into believers. She says, “If you can write your name, I can teach you to decorate a cake.”
These days, Jill designs cakes and teaches the Write Way to Cake Decorating method all over the country. She is passionate about making life sweet, simple and fun. When designing cakes she has busy, budget-wise people in mind. She doesn’t want people to spend hours in the kitchen before a party. Jill says, “I want people to get out of the kitchen and enjoy the party with their friends and family”.
The newest decorating craze, Write Way to Cake Decorating is a sweet victory to millions. Jill’s motto is “You can make your cake and eat it too.”
